Things I Know #9- Exercise is the devils form of torture

Another week gone already.  Time is flying by, I know I say that every week but it is so true!!

Without further ado here is what has gone down around here this week.

  • Firstly this is in point form as I am trying to type really quickly as I am in a little pain.  Yes in breaking news I exercised 2 nights in a row with the lovely garage ladies.  Holy crap I wasn't too bad after night 1 but I cannot move after night 2!!
  • I am so uncoordinated it is not funny!!  Like seriously unco.
  • I have enjoyed it and want to keep going!!
  • Fave exercise would have to be boxing.
  • In other news I broke my sunglasses.  My all time favourite sunglasses.
  • I got a new screen on my phone, I am taking bets on how long it will last.
  • We had a couple of sleepless nights here which resulted in a first tooth, my baby is getting too big.
  • The Emus got smashed again in their soccer game.  Once again they were playing against kids who are closer to 7 not 6, plus apparently the opposing coach was sending some of his team into the goal whenever we got the ball.  Which goes against the no goalie rule.
  • For some reason I am not able to go into hibernation yet as there is too much on on the weekends.  Just one quiet day would be great!!
  • I am banning loom bands from this house.  The kids were given some made bracelets which have broken and I now spend my days fishing the tiny bands out of the babies mouth.
  • Also close to being banned is lego.  Not just because it is small and annoying and hurts when you stand on it but because of the song from the movie (which we haven't seen yet).  This is seriously one of the most annoying get in your head songs of all time!!

Thats about all for another week.  Feel free to link up whatever you know!!

Thankful Thursday- Time Travel

If I could time travel anywhere it would be to see the final result from game 3 of the Origin series.  I am not a massive footy head but come origin time I get right into it!!  I am also not counting my chickens as there is still a long way to go but NSW had the goods last night, even with some very questionable refereeing decisions.  Just quietly the ref should be sacked.  The last 5 minutes were a joke.  But for now I will bask in the win and stick it right up the grubby Queenslanders I know.  Bring on the next game!!

But really I have no idea where I would time travel too.  Somedays it would be great to see into the future, other days it would be great to go back in time.  I actually wish there was a quicker way to get to places without travelling on a plane.  I would love to see my family overseas but the thought of over 24 hours of travel is an absolutely shocking thought.

Lastly I woke up this morning to hear the sad news that Maya Angelou has passed away.  I know I probably shouldn't include such a wonderful person in a post filled with stupidity however I am thankful for her amazing life and words and the incredible legacy she is leaving.
The bird is one of my favourite quotes as is

As I am Thankful this week for a few good sports who have put up with my cyber taunting made even sweeter by the win and the legacy of one amazing woman I am linking up with Rhianna for Thankful Thursday and also with Tegan (a Queenslander) who is hosting The Lounge this week with the topic being time travel.

English is hard and I need a desk. Just another random #ibot!!

90% Of People Can't Pronounce This Whole Poem. You Have To Try It.

If you can pronounce correctly every word in this poem, you will be speaking English better than 90% of the native English speakers in the world.

After trying the verses, a Frenchman said he’d prefer six months of hard labor to reading six lines aloud.

...
I found this website on facebook and had to share.  I got to about line 8 before I stuffed it!!

In other news I really need a new printer as apparently we need to be printing stuff as "homework"in kindergarten.  Before I get a printer I need a desk to put it on.  Do you think I can find one I even remotely like.  Back to google on that one.

Me exercise?? HA!!

I don’t always exercise – LOL and Funny Picture at BreakBrunch.com

LOL funny fitblr exercise meme ecard fitness yoga

Today I am confessing about exercise.  Well my lack of it as these hilarious memes would suggest!!

I could give all the excuses in the world for why I don't exercise more than I do but I won't.  The exercise I love the most is swimming and maybe next summer I will be able to swim more.

That being said I am going to learn to like it and do it and drop a few kegs starting this week in fact!!  I was invited to join a group of ladies who exercise twice a week just doing stuff in a garage.  These ladies will be great motivators and trainers and I am secretly looking forward to it.  Don't worry though I can't imagine I will ever be all .It will also mean missing the start of State of Origin but not by much, I should only miss a few minutes of the first half and still have plenty of time to see the BLUES stick it to the stinking grubby cane toad queenslanders!!

Come back on Friday for #tik where I will give you all my gory exercise stories from this week as I can imagine it will be a hilarious experience for all!!

Things I Know #8- Just an ordinary week

All I have to say this week is tgif!!  Let me begin as always with

The Bad

  • Tuesday saw 2 exploding poos, resulting in not only having to wash baby clothes but my clothes as well,  For some reason witching hour went for about 12 hours.  Then I thought I was pretty smart not needing to go to the shops on Tuesday except I was wrong as we needed bread so I had to trot off down the road after the kids went to bed to buy some.  We also missed playgroup as I did not have the heart to wake a sleeping baby.  Then my phone was knocked to the floor cracking the screen.  I am devestated as I cannot use it incase it cracks more!!  Why it chose this time to crack when it has been dropped more times than I can count is beyond me.
  • Wednesday was a good day (1 at big school, 1 at preschool).  Except when the kids were outside playing and came running in to tell me about the dead rat on the grass.  The HOTH was informed of the rat but did not move it.
  • Thursday I took the longest possible route to avoid the rat to get to the washing line to get a clean school shirt when I saw that it was no longer there.  I can only assume a dog ate it, ewwwwww.
The Good

  • The emus did it tough at soccer,.  The odds were stacked against them playing a team which was made up of kids who had obviously played last year so were a lot older plus 2 kids were sick, 1 kid didn't want to play and another came off about 10 minutes into the match with a sore foot meaning there were 3 players, no reserves and the little brother of one of our side ended up playing!!  The 3 remaining did an outstanding job playing the full 30 minutes!!  I felt so mean as we had walked down to soccer so I had to make the tired out soccer star walk home!!  Then back it up with a swimming lesson.
  • I was a parent helper at preschool on Wednesday for a trip to the library for simultaneous story time.  So much respect for the teachers and librarians who kept 20 odd kids entertained and quiet.  I got to walk my 3 year old and one gorgeous little girl to the library.  I love conversations with 3 and 4 year olds!!  I especially love kids who tell you all the know.  Like our little walking buddy told me all about how there are 3 beer shops in town now!!  Which made me feel like mother of the year as my kids don't know there are 3 they just want to go into the new wine shop everytime we walk past!!
  • Thursday I got to watch Kind Kid get his very first award at school.  One of the perks of being a stay at home mum for sure!!  Although trying to keep the younger 2 quiet and concentrate on what was going on was quite the battle!!
  • I went for my dinner with mum's group last night, another great night except goat was on the menu again!!
There it is, another week done and dusted.  Have a great weekend, don't forget to link up what you know!!

Seriously one day I will actually write a decent #ibot post!!

I say 30 but I am notoriously bad at maths!!

I am determined to not miss out on #ibot this week so here is a funny picture, a complex maths problem and song of the week!!

Mango and coconut muffins

Set of Five Bakery Muffins
Image from here

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups sifted self raising flour
  • 1 1/4 cups desiccated coconut
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or normal milk if you never remember to buy buttermilk!!)
  • 2 lightly beaten eggs
  • 75g melted butter
  • 1 roughly chopped mango
Method

  • Preheat oven to 190 degrees
  • Spray a 12 hole muffin tray with cooking spray
  • In a bowl mix flour, coconut and sugar.  Make a well in the centre.
  • In a separate bowl combine, buttermilk, eggs and butter.
  • Use a large metal spoon or spatula to fold the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture.
  • Add the mango and fold until just combined.
  • Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden and cooked through.
  • Remove from oven and stand for several minutes before transferring muffins to a wire rack to cool.
  • These muffins can be kept in an airtight container for up to three days.  I don't see why you couldn't freeze these??
  • As an alternate to mango try fresh peach or apricot.  I have also used tinned fruit drained really well.
While on the hunt for our elusive camera I came across this recipe I had ripped out of the paper (4/2/09)!!  I used to make these regularly with a variety of fruits.  I love this recipe as it is all pantry staples, easy and tasty!!

I will give these a whirl again over the weekend as I am looking for something new and sort of healthy for lunchboxes and baby snacks.  Also perfect timing as I put my name down for morning tea at playgroup and the letter for that week will be M.  Hello muffins and Mexican (corn chips and salsa!!).  These will be perfect to make plus I have a mini muffin tin somewhere so I will make a couple of different varieties of muffins.  Too easy!!

Things I Know #7- #prettylittlepackage

A short #tik this week as I have stuffed around playing with the camera trying to transfer pictures wirelessly to my phone which kept disconnecting.  Then I realised the time and got the lappy out to write an insightful intelligent entertaining #tik when the bloody thing first chucked a wobbly and installed some updates then after it restarted itself would not connect to the wifi.

So in point form here is what I know this week-

  • Someone forgot to tell a certain baby it was a special day on Sunday and we were up at the crack.
  • Saturday was the start of my new career as a professional soccer mum and the debut of the newest socceroo.  For his first game ever the future socceroo played amazingly.  (More on soccer next week, lets just say I was stunned about one thing in particular).
  • I completely missed #ibot this week, it is like a whole day disappeared into the bermuda triangle.
  • Saturday night the HOTH and I finished watching season 5 of Sons of Anarchy on dvd.  We now have to wait until season 6 comes out on dvd later in the year.  A definite ffs for that one!!
  • Although 24:Live another day just started and will be Saturday nights viewing for a while.  I am thinking we need to start hiring dvds or find another show to watch.  Any suggestions welcome!!
  • I am looking forward to a very relaxing Sunday this week.  God help anyone or anything who get in my way of this!!
  • Something I don't know is why facebook insists on having top stories.  Their idea of top stories and my idea are 2 very different things.
  • I know that injuring my right hand/wrist is a pain in the butt and very inconvenient.  I have no idea how I managed it!!
Lastly for a good news story.

A few weeks ago I saw a thing pop up called #prettylittlepackage.  The brainchild of Where The Styled Things Are.  Basically a gift exchange between people.  I had a pressie already decided on which was a cute bag made out a of recycled sari from A Girl and Her World
My recipient was Erica from Recycled Fashion and I could not believe how this would be the perfect present!!
I really enjoyed this, and was pretty pleased with how it turned out although the finished product probably did not look like the picture after being shoved into a post bag and shipped across the country!!
Check out the link to Where The Styled Things Are if you want to be involved in the next #prettylittlepackage adventure.  Such a fun way to discover new blogs and people!!

I must confess- not quite a foodie!!

Baked goat, no thanks!!

Once every six weeks dinner is booked at our very fancy local restaurant and our mums group gather for some good food, wine and a natter.  It has become something I really look forward to.  Even if getting out of the house by 730pm is like some kind of military exercise!!

I have to confess when I eat out I usually go for the vegetarian option as I am very fussy with meat and I don't eat seafood!!  I will always get dessert too!!

Last time we were there baked goat was on the menu, ewwwwwww.

Years ago before kids the HOTH and I had dinner at the revolving restaurant at Centrepoint Tower (no idea what it is called now!!).  He tried a tasting plate with kangaroo, crocodile, emu.  Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.  Apparently it wasn't that good from memory!!

That was a great night, we didn't get to eat dinner at the revolving tables but we had a few drinks after in the revolving part which was pretty cool.

Man V Food is a great show for not only the weird and wonderful food but also the challenges!!  I am sure this episode features the best looking doughnut shop in the world!!

Fess up would you eat baked goat??!!

Things I Know #6- Mothers Day 2014

Friday again and time for another round of #tik!!

I don't know a great deal this week.  I have spent this week trying to gt back to normal after our holiday.  Very unsuccessfully!!

All I know is it is Mothers Day on Sunday.  I have no idea why Australia celebrates this day in May and the rest of the world in March??

I am not a huge fan of Mothers Day.  Apparently according to all the advertising I should be wanting pink slippers and a foot spa.  Wrong wrong wrong.

I know I have at least one beautifully handmade something from preschool.  Kindy Kid chose an awesome present from his Mothers Day stall (a candle, yes he showed me!!).  We just had an amazing holiday where I got to drink cocktails at sunset, have a massage and be relaxed for a whole week.  I do not need anything else!!

Ok maybe I do need a funky pair of converse or something similar for winter, just to avoid leaving the house in socks and thongs.  I may or may not have done this the other day!!  I also spent the whole day with my fly undone.  All class here!!

I was given a voucher for a facial for my birthday and will be cashing that in soon so that sort of counts as a present!!

I would love a sleep in on Sunday.  Chances are zero.  Seriously kids sleeping in would not hurt you!!

What I would love most of all is some time, just a couple of hours to sit and blog and read.  Fingers crossed on that one!!

Enjoy your day if you are a mother or have a mother and you celebrate the occasion!!

Linking up with Tegan from Musings of the Misguided and the ladies from The Lounge and also Rhianna from A Parenting Life for a belated Thankful Thursday as I am incredibly thankful to have 3 gorgeous boys (even though 99% of the time they drive me bonkers!!).

Reality Bites

We have been back from holidays for 2 days now and I am struggling to get back to reality.  Not just the weather (bloody freezing, hello winter) and the whole having to do stuff like housework thing but just the general busyness of the real world.

So today for #ibot here is the cutest video of baby elephants and a song from the movie Reality Bites.

I promise to have something a little more exciting next week!!

Tings I Know #5- Kokomo

I found out a little while ago that the place The Beach Boys sing about "Kokomo" does not really exist.  Well it does but not how the song describes it!!

But as the song says, "everybody knows a little place like Kokomo" and I have found mine.

Do you know a little place like Kokomo??  How hot is a very young John Stamos on drums??!!  How awesome is the movie Cocktail??!!

Feel free to link up anything you know!!
