So excited he would not keep still for me to get a decent photo!! |
Speedy had his first swimming lesson on Tuesday. For half an hour I saw a happy, smiling and laughing baby. A complete 180 from how he normally is. To see such sheer joy was incredible. I really must make more of an effort to take him swimming as it really is his thing.
It made me remember that swimming lessons can be so much fun when they are little despite the organisation required!! I will probably contradict myself in winter when it is freezing getting in and out of the pool but for now I will enjoy every second and soak it up as this will definitely be the last time I have to start the swimming lesson process again.
I have been doing the baby class for nearly 5 years, starting when the eldest was 14 weeks old, then just after he turned 2 and moved up a class the now 3 year old started and after a few month break I am back in again with Speedy.
I love the water and want the boys to be able to enjoy and be confident as well. Getting to do swimming lessons and be in the pool is a real highlight of parenting for me.
I am thankful we can afford to put the kids in lessons, it is quite the expensive exercise with 3 kids. They will continue to do them until they can swim, I do not care if they are Olympic champions but I do care that they have the very important skill. It really is one thing I wish the government subsidised in some way so everyone can benefit.
Doing a double whammy link up today with Rhianna from A Parenting Life for Thankful Thursday and also with The Lounge which is being hosted this week by Tegan from Musings Of The Misguided
I think swimming lessons should be subsidised too, they are so expensive but it's such a crucial skill for kids growing up in Australia surrounded by water. Glad your wee guy enjoys it!
ReplyDeleteOh what a cutie little Speedy is. Swimming lessons are such a vital part of life it makes my heart swell when I hear or read of others who realise it is such an important skill. Enjoy your time in the water and thanks for joining in with #thankfulthursday
ReplyDeleteThat's one happy-looking baby. It's great that he enjoys something, which is so vital to learn, so much. And who knows - maybe one day the Olympics or at least a ribbon at his school carnival.
ReplyDeleteWOW! SO happy looking!!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes go and help/watch my neices. My sister goes on her own and used to need some help to play tag when changing one child out of wet togs while the other one had her lesson!! Both girls had to have Mummy in with them!
I loved that time with the little girls.
You are a good Mum doing the swimming thing.. I am not a swimmer so my children haven't learnt either.
oooh, yes the amount of money that goes into swimming lessons is scary! But what can you do??
ReplyDeleteSpeedy is so cute! Mr 4 is a water baby too and him being in the bath each night is my peace and quiet!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with us at The Lounge
Gorgeous! Swimming lessons do cost a bomb. They should really be subsidised or something.
ReplyDeleteLovely. Swimming lessons are expensive - it would be cheaper to put my 3yo in ballet lessons! But I'd rather she could swim. At our pool, a discount kicks in once you have three children enrolled, and another for the fourth. But it's still a lot!
ReplyDeleteWe started too soon with 9mo - he hated it and screamed for his first four lessons. Took a two-month breather, and returned - now he loves it!
My girls loved swimming lessons, then we moved onto dancing and sport. All expensive but worth every penny, as they get so much more than you think out of them. xxx Rae
ReplyDeleteConsidering most of us live by the sea, and having such a culture that involves a lot of water play, the government should subsidise some of the cost. We don't do lessons, Izzy will do VACSWIM at the lake next summer, and then school swimming lessons.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about putting my youngest in lessons this year, as she is the only one who hasn't had them, but at this point it's the cost that is holding me back from it. They really are quite expensive unfortunately. But such a valuable skill for kids to have
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness he is oh so cute!! Keep swimming mamma x
ReplyDeleteI too have been in the same swimming class with my children for years. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to put all five of my children in lessons, so they all rotate throughout the year, with two children doing it at any one time. Subsiding it sounds like a great idea!
